Curve from innerfidelity

Ok, I was a bit impatient. That's a huge difference, especially at 5kHz. It seems I have totally forgotten to update the project status here. Since the last replies of this thread a lot has happened. The number of covered headphone models is now at over I've added Rtings, oratory, Reference Audio Analyzer and now Crinacle's measurements and pre-computed results for them. Different type of equalizers have gained support too. AutoEQ produces settings for basically all types of equalizers.

There are parametric equalizer filters optimized, fixed band graphic equalizer filters optimized and impulse responses for minimum phase and linear phase filters.

This means that any device or platform which has some type of equalizer is covered. However out of all possible fixed band equalizers only band EQs are supported in the pre-computed results but others can be generated with little effort. Our headphone target response is a hybrid; it follows the Harman target response in the bass and mid ranges, but its treble range is based on the Diffuse Field response of the HMS. This is because the Harman target response was derived using a dummy head different from the one used by us, and therefore its treble range, which includes the ear resonances, doesn't match the ear resonances of our dummy head.

The next step in evaluating the frequency response of a headphone is "flattening" it by applying the target curve to it, and then, it is level-matched to 90dB between 20Hz and 20KHz. That is, the overall level of the headphone's frequency response is adjusted in such a way that its average value equals to 90dB.

This way, the response will have the best chance at scoring well in our calculations. I recently purchased one and initial impressions are pretty good, although I am not sure that it is much better than the plate design. You can use the sound-card of your computer to provide the output to drive the headphones being tested.

If you do, make sure all effects are turned off. A better option is the use a DAC and headphone amplifier. I currently use the Schiit Fulla. You will need measurement software to take frequency response measurements. AnalogSteph Major Contributor Jan 17, Joined Nov 6, Messages 1, Likes 1, Location. I didn't know that headphones could have an output these days. I always thought they connected to the output of an amplifier. Anyway, the cables they're selling there seem ludicrously fat - 18AWG equivalent, good lord.

One of my favorite aspects of Sennheiser's original cables is how light and comfy they are. With ohm cans in balanced mode, massive conductors are about the last thing on your priority list. Does anyone just reterminate original cables with XLRs by any chance? The MX-HPA has 2 x 3pin for the balanced arrangement and one of my thoughts was that the cable will not be particularly small in csa.

I've only been able to find unboxing information on the but it seems the comes with the cable plugged in my didn't. The packaging is really poor and very easy to open, which I expected, and slightly damaged the headphone appears fine. The damage and haphazard way the headphone, wire, and manual were strewn around in the box most likely happened in shipping, but the headphone also has a funny smell quite pleasant actually, reminds me of a clean hotel room that might be someone else's shampoo, although it appears a bit strong for that and could just be the way the foam smells from the factory.

Just wondering if there are other owners who could clue me in on whether these details are normal or not. 1. It is essentially a DF curve with some of the head and torso effects taken out of the calculation. It is the compensating curve I use for InnerFidelity graphs.) Historically, the DF curve had been generally adopted as superior to the FF curve as a target response curve for vivaldiaudio.comted Reading Time: 12 mins.
  2. A finished set of frequency response curves. In the final product frequency response graphs here at InnerFidelity, you see the ten raw frequency response measurements (five left and five right)at the bottom of the chart. The spatially averaged and HRTF compensated frequency response for the headphones is at the top of the vivaldiaudio.comted Reading Time: 12 mins.
  3. So, I used the new curve csv. It definitely sounds the best of the bunch. I think the the flatness of both the Innerfidelity target and this new, calibrated curve from to hz compared to SBAF serious is what makes me like them more.
  4. I used the red curve from this graph for my calculations. I think this is the curve @Tyll Hertsens usually uses for his compensations. Some comparisons, all aligned @ 1 kHz: Vs Harman Vs "New Innerfidelity Curve" from here: Vs "The Blue Curve" that had been discussed here: Vs my own target curve (HFX Target).
  5. Especially the target curve is a tricky thing to nail down because Innerfidelity and vivaldiaudio.com measurements are not directly comparable with the measurement system used by Sean Olive and others for their Harman target response vivaldiaudio.comted Reading Time: 5 mins.

So Tyll retired to travel the world in his van Putt, hope he’s having fun and also hope he shares that fun with his old readers. After all, some of us enjoy other things besides Headphones. Anyway, the new editor behind Innerfidelity is the reason I’m writing.

  8. Sad to see innerfidelity gone, I used to check their site regularly. I quite enjoy their Wall of Fame until that was suspended awhile back. We want our beloved hobby to grow, not shrink, so its never good to see a quality site go dark. I suspect there are now too much competition from Youtube 'expert' audio reviewers with good production value.
